Lucas Coker
Guitarist / Composer

Bio

While working towards his long-time academic dream of becoming a psychiatrist, guitarist Lucas Coker has explored the depths of classical music theory, cognitive psychology, world religions, organic chemistry, jazz composition, human decision-making, mind-body philosophy, evolutionary genetics...
It is this unique universal perspective that breathes life into his music.

His talents have granted him the opportunity to play with numerous incredible musicians, notably: Matt Ulery, Jon Deitemyer, Scott Burns, Kabir Dalawari, amongst many others.

He has performed at many landmark Chicago venues, including: The Jazz Showcase, Pianoforte Studios, The California Clipper, Easy Does It, Fulton Street Collective, and Archie's Cafe.

Lucas' music focuses on blending and balancing revered traditional jazz language, visceral classic rock riffing, hip-hop simplicity and vibes, and modern avant-garde exploration.

Lucas earned his Bachelor of Science in Psychology and a Bachelor of Arts in Jazz Studies at Loyola University Chicago.  He is currently finishing his third year at The Chicago Medical School at Rosalind Franklin University.
